Kevin and I decided we should get the genetic blood test done this time around and (bonus!) we could find out the gender early. So, at 10 weeks I went in and got my blood drawn. Then we waited. And waited. And waited for what seemed like a year, when really it was only about a week and a half. They were going to call my phone so when they did I quickly asked them not to tell me the gender. We had them call my phone back and I let it go to voicemail so that Kevin and I could listen together. As I watched my phone ring, I swear it rang 400 times, it took every bit of self-control I have not to answer it. Then that ding. I had a new voicemail. It was burning in my hand. I sent Kevin a text at work… ‘they called; I have a voicemail’. I didn’t even have to give specifics; he knew what I was talking about. He replied "I’m on my way home!" Good thing he only works a couple miles away from the house! He was home in minutes, and we ran to our bathroom, away from the girls, and played that voicemail. “Congratulations, you’re having a baby boy!” OH MY GOODNESS!! A BOY!!!!! What in the world were we going to do with a boy?! We looked at each other and saw equal amounts of excitement, joy, and fear. Kevin said, “oh god, what the heck have we done?!” We laughed and quietly celebrated together. With a quick kiss he was off to work again. Now we had this huge secret to keep for almost two weeks. We could not wait to tell everyone! We had a small gender reveal at Josie’s birthday party since a lot of family would be there already. All the faces and reactions were priceless but none better than Laynie’s. She wanted another little sister so bad and she was very obviously disappointed in the blue paint that splattered as she popped the balloon. She did get over it pretty quickly and became incredibly excited about a baby brother. Our world was going to change more than we could even imagine. We were all so used to pink and sparkles and all things girly. But we couldn’t wait to learn all things boy.
